"Institut für Cicatroxologie"
writing desk (wood)
archive material (inventory cards, document files, paper)
"The "Institut für Cicatrixologie" is a mixed-media installation originally created for the former navy hospital Kiel-Wik in 2015. The installation was thus made for a place where those who suffered the wounds of war were given medical treatment. The institut is imaginary, staged by the artist, and the complex name is also fictitious. It is an open archive for taking stock of scars, a scientific site, then, where the remains of subjective life stories are made anonymous and objectifiable. The centre is formed by a desk that was apparently still used a short while ago, a cultural-historical symbol of power and knowledge."
